So it seems EAC is incompatible with Windows 10, or rather the version of LAME that I downloaded (3.100.1) is. Check your computer's system information and then contact the software publisher. When I ran LAME.exe in a CMD, I get: The version of C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy\lame.exe is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. There don’t appear to be any return codes, so heaven knows what 216 actually means: There only two return values, "success" (=0) and "failure" (everythingĮlse). LAME options: %islow%-V 5%islow%%ishigh%-V 2%ishigh% -vbr-new %source% %dest% I ended up just doing a WAV rip, with the hope of later running LAME manually using the command line options that EAC was using. The same code is returned by the test encoder function Once everything is up and running, then I hit LAME errors when EAC was trying to externally compress the WAVs to MP3 (320 kB/s)… Error 216 was returned by LAME, not much else was reported, apart from the command line options used.Don’t copy the zip to the EAC older and then try to unzip it, it won’t work. Unzip the LAME zip file in the downloads folder and then copy it to the EAC folder. If you don’t select back and forth, then even though you have a correctly named directory, it will still save the MP3 files under `New Folder`. When you do specify a new folder to save the files in, and rename it, the renaming isn’t recognised, until you select a different directory and then go back to reselect your newly created-and-renamed folder. Why doesn’t it default to the Music directory? Why doesn’t it auto-create a directory named after the CD title? OK, so I was using a Vietnamese audio CD that wasn’t recognised by freedb or any other online database, but I had entered the Title and Artist and the track names… (The fact that it didn’t find LAME might explain the LAME errors below). Goes off searching the entire filesystem for LAME when it has actually been placed in the same directory as EAC! Why can’t it actually just look in its own directory first.? You then have to cancel the search and let it default to the application’s directory. No wizard dialog for default rate (i.e quality) of MP3.Need to email an email for – no the fault of EAC, but still more work to do.Difficult to read wizard, too much text, too small a font.No the CD wasn’t dirty and I tried two different CDs) Long winded wizard, not helped by my internal CD drive not seeing an old audio CD (but in Ubuntu the CD drive worked fine… thereafter booting back into Windows the CD drive stopped playing up.Why isn’t it included as the patents have now expired? OK, there is an option not to install these. Loads of useless plugins installed – Limited trial databases (I forget which one), and what not.To be honest, EAC is a right royal pain in the bum to set up… especially when compared to the ease of ripping on OSX in iTunes, however, a MBP can’t read all CDs, so when needs must… How to verify FLAC files against the AccurateRip database?.I had a bit of a struggle getting Exact Audio Copy (EAC) up and running… on Windows 10 S.
